Oh La La

authorAvah | August 28, 2008

Since my return from France, I’ve tried to be more French.

I’ve cut way back on drinking soda and have been drinking more water and fresh brewed iced tea.

I’ve been using some of the canvas bags I brought back from France when I go to stores and I even picked up 2 new ones, one from Target and one from Shop Rite.

I’ve even started eating this really yummy goat cheese!

But anways, I’ve been editing my pictures from France, and I’ve narrowed down the some 700 pictures I took down to about 55 favorites, so I’ll start posting some of them here.

And then I’ll go eat my goat cheese and plan how I can move to the South of France after I graduate in January…

Dear Lucy

authorAvah | August 13, 2008

Dear Lucy,

I don’t know if you’re reading this, but if you are, perhaps you could humor me for a minute?

Some of us have been talking and we’re really curious about your side of the story.  For years we’ve only seen one side from Jefferson, and well…well you know him.  And you saw it.  It was simple enough to believe in the beginning, but after all this going on, and just being with Jefferson in general, we’re thinking there’s a lot more to this story.

We’re less curious about the custody case (though slightly of course) but a bit more in search of answers perhaps only you could provide for us.

Obviously this is best to do offline (unless you were to start a blog too, which would be awesome), so feel free to e-mail me at avahsascent AT gmail [dot] com.

If you think it’s best to wait until after the custody case is over, that’s totally understandable.

Any time you’re ready, that’d be just super.

A Voice of Reason

Well, shit. That’s a horrendous situation for anyone and their family to be in, but I have to admit that I’ve been feeling a bit conflicted about the whole thing, and especially the way it’s being painted by the FOJ. I have struggled a lot with how to write this post - even whether I should write it, and why I should bring these issues up now, why I’ve publicly kept my trap shut about this stuff (for years, in some cases), and to what degree it’s a shitty thing to kick someone while they are down. And also - what does it mean to stir the pot within the sex positive community instead of being supportive - can I do both at once? Furthermore, how do we manage criticism of one of our own?

Je le veux!!!!

France (and Europe for that matter) is all about the scooter.

Having taken my first scooter ride this weekend and discovering it’s not so bad, I now find myself with scooter envy.

Well, I did some brief googling and I found this awesome Honda model:

Honda Metropolitan

The Metropolitan.  Isn’t it awesome?!  It goes for just a tad over 2k…which, for a person with an income isn’t out of reach.

But pour moi?  *Sigh*

I’ll tack it to the end of my lists of wants like a Mac Book, laser eye surgery, paying off debt.  And now a scooter.

OMG it’s just so cute.

I want it!

Free Gum!

authorAvah | June 27, 2008

I’ve been enjoying Extra’s new gum- Fruit Sensations both in Strawberry Banana (which is very yummy) and Island Cooler but I found the gum gets soft and liquidy in my mouth so I decided to write the people at Wrigley’s and let them know.  Well, only a few hours later and I got a response!

Dear Avah,

Thank you for contacting us to comment on your experience with Extra® Island Cooler and Strawberry Banana gums.  We are always happy to hear from our consumers and truly value your feedback.  By receiving input from consumers like you, we are able to constantly make improvements and ensure that we are always providing our consumers with the highest quality products.

Our Technical Services laboratory technicians suggest that an improperly formulated gum base may have caused the extremely soft texture and we are continuing to investigate this possibility.

While we can’t be certain why your product seemed to fall apart, it is also possible it was exposed to excessive heat or humidity somewhere along the line after it left our factory.  This may affect the texture, making it soft and sticky.  It’s likely that when it returned to room temperature it maintained its appearance but lost its normal consistency.  Our objective is to make high quality products that our consumers will choose over and over again, so we will pass along your comments to the appropriate personnel who are continually working on improving our products.

To help us accurately document these issues, we ask for your kind assistance in providing the lot numbers from your last purchase of these flavors, if they are still available.  The lot number appears on one of the narrow edges of the package, and begins with the letter “L”. You may reply to this email to submit this information.  We thank you for your help.

Again, we are sorry you had this experience and thank you for reaching out to us.  We are sending along complimentary coupons in the mail  with our best wishes.  If you have any additional questions or comments feel free to contact us at 1-800-WRIGLEY Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST.

Sincerely,

Susan Garner
Consumer Affairs Representative

And now I feel all defeated and such.

Heartbreak

R.I.P. George Carlin

Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas.

“He was a genius and I will miss him dearly,” Jack Burns, who was the other half of a comedy duo with Carlin in the early 1960s, told The Associated Press.

The actor Ben Stiller called Carlin “a hugely influential force in stand-up comedy. He had an amazing mind, and his humor was brave, and always challenging us to look at ourselves and question our belief systems, while being incredibly entertaining. He was one of the greats.”  (more)
