It's wonderful that you were able to establish that kind of relationship with her eventually. I hope you can maintain it no matter what happens with your dad. It makes sense that she was missing you. She probably seemed cold to you because she didn't know how to act around you. Can you maybe email her? Then you don't have to worry about your dad answering the phone. You could also just write her a letter or send her a card. I think it's important to keep these kinds of relationships. This is a really beautiful post.
